Dr. Shinway is a licensed clinical psychologist in the states of New Jersey, New York, Florida and Vermont. She founded the Center for Specialized Psychology, located in Hoboken, NJ, to meet the unique and individualized needs of women and children exposed to trauma.
Dr. Shinway specializes in working with women who have been negatively impacted by domestic violence, childhood abuse, and reproductive/female issues. She is an expert in trauma therapy and incorporates various techniques from CBT, DBT, ACT, and Prolonged Exposure, to meet the individualized needs of her patients. Dr. Shinway helps her patients process and heal from adverse life circumstances and gain insight into how past experiences impact current behavioral and emotional functioning. The most common treatment outcome for her patients consists of self-empowerment, strength & stability.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Shinway is an Adjunct Professor for the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience at Nova Southeastern University. She currently teaches the Child Maltreatment and Trauma Assessment and Intervention online graduate course, for those students interested in taking on a speciality in the treatment of trauma.
Dr. Shinway is also a contracted evaluator for the NJ Department of Children and Families, Division of Child Protection and Permanency.
